Re-Transport Media A Peer-to-Peer Streaming Solution
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we propose Re-Transport Media (RTM), a peer-to-peer streaming architecture which amortizes the bandwidth costs of serving internet media by cooperatively distributing the streaming load among connected clients. Conventional media streaming architectures typically impose significant bandwidth load on the server’s Internet uplink, requiring the content provider to serve the stream to all end-users. In recent work, systems use an application-layer multicasting protocol and place clients in layered clusters to implement efficient contentdistribution. RTM improves upon existing systems by reducing control traffic to constant time, using a centralized tracker to maintain an organized client tree structure. We create a functional peer-to-peer radio implementation of the RTM design as a proof-of-concept which uses the Shoutcast streaming protocol. The implications of RTM are widespread: RTM eases the bandwidth burden on current content providers, enables providers to broadcast higher-fidelity media streams, and empowers ordinary users with modest bandwidth to become content providers.

A Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory
The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...

متن کاملPreventing DoS Attacks in Peer-to-Peer Media Streaming Systems
This paper presents a framework for preventing both selfishness and denial-of-service attacks in peer-to-peer media streaming systems. Our framework, called Oversight, achieves prevention of these undesirable activities by running a separate peer-to-peer download rate enforcement protocol along with the underlying peer-to-peer media streaming protocol. This separate Oversight protocol enforces ...
متن کاملVerifying Data Integrity in Peer-to-Peer Media Streaming
We study data integrity verification in peer-to-peer media streaming for content distribution. Challenges include the timing constraint of streaming as well as the untrustworthiness of peers. We show the inadequacy of existing data integrity verification protocols, and propose Block-Oriented Probabilistic Verification (BOPV), an efficient protocol utilizing message digest and probabilistic veri...
متن کاملOn Peer-to-Peer Media Streaming
In this paper, we study a peer-to-peer media streaming system with the following characteristics: (1) its streaming capacity grows dynamically; (2) peers do not exhibit serverlike behavior; (3) peers are heterogeneous in their bandwidth contribution; and (4) each streaming session may involve multiple supplying peers. Based on these characteristics, we investigate two problems: (1) how to assig...
